Welsh Assembly sets out housing policies

More affordable homes will be one of the priorities of the Welsh
Assembly government's new housing policy programme, it has been
revealed.
The National Housing Strategy for Wales was launched at a
regeneration project in Newport, which includes 54 affordable homes
for sale or rent.
Aims listed in the document include collaboration between the
public and private sectors to make more homes available, greater
energy efficiency and increased housing options to help buyers
adjust to changing needs.
Deputy minister for housing Jocelyn Davies commented: "Everybody in
Wales has the right to live in good quality housing that suits
their needs. Once achieved, it is the foundation for a good quality
of life."
Earlier this week the Scottish government announced its plans to
increase the availability of affordable housing.
It is to bring forward £17 million to buy up unsold stock from
developers, acquire land for housing associations and help
construction firms to continue work on projects they have
started.
