Tenant demand 'set to stay stable'

The level of tenant demand in the UK is set to remain "stable" for
the rest of 2009, it has been suggested.
Analysing the current state of the rental property investment
sector, the managing director of smartlandlord.co.uk Keshav
Thukaram listed a number of factors that could help sustain rental
levels.
He stated that these include a reduction in the number of people
making homes available to rent due to being able to sell them
following improvements in the sales market, while increased
self-employment and take-up of higher education opportunities is
adding to demand.
Mr Thukaram contnued: "Yields are looking attractive and with the
housing market nearing the bottom many landlords are looking at
expanding their portfolios."
However, he warned that investors should get insurance against
tenants becoming unemployed.
Taking out such insurance is one of the ways those renting out
property can protect their income during the recession, Young Group
advised earlier this week.
