Homebuyers viewing property market in a "positive light"

Cautious optimism is continuing in the property market, with most
buyers now viewing the current situation in a "positive light", one
property expert has claimed.
Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy at the Building Societies
Association, said that the majority of respondents to the
organisation's Property Tracker survey believe that now is a good
time to buy.
The survey also found that access to a mortgage is viewed as a
barrier to buying by just 49 per cent of people, compared with 55
per cent in June and 58 per cent in March.
Furthermore, participants expect property prices to rise by 1.6 per
cent over the next year.
"With mortgage availability perceived to be increasing, prospective
buyers are more confident of securing funding to purchase a
property," stated Mr Broadhead.
This news follows the remarks of Paul Holmes, chief executive at
mortgage broker Firstrung, who recently asserted that there is
demand for houses, despite claims to the contrary from estate
agents.
